Ole Miss is a little busy right now trying to win a national championship, with the Rebels starting play at the College World Series on Friday night with a showdown against North Carolina.
But with the college baseball transfer portal ongoing this month, Ole Miss has the wanted task of trying to retool its roster for the 2027 season while it competes for the biggest trophy in the sport for the 2026 season. In that spirit, the Rebels earned some huge victories in the portal even before stepping onto the field on Friday against the Tar Heels.
Ole Miss earned a commitment on Friday afternoon from slugging first baseman Trey Hawsey, who will be coming to the big stage of the SEC from Louisiana Tech. Hawsey is a 6-foot-2, 240-pound left-handed power bat who will be arriving in Oxford for his junior season.
Hawsey has flashed the power stroke so far during his college career, with 24 home runs, and he will bring that element to Ole Miss for the 2027 season. But he’s also proven to be a quality hitter who can hit for average, sporting a career .315 batting clip so far.
After growing into a starting role for the Bulldogs this past season, Hawsey proved his worth with a .335 batting average to go with 15 homers and 47 RBIs during a stellar sophomore season.

— The Rebel Walk (@TheRebelWalk) June 12, 2026Hawsey wasn’t the only transfer commitment that Ole Miss earned on Friday. The Rebels also added pitcher Brent Stukes from South Carolina Upstate.
Stukes went 8-3 this past season as a junior, although his ERA was 5.65. That wasn’t enough to scare away Ole Miss, which is taking a flyer on Stukes for the 2027 season.
With one eye on retooling the 2027 roster for another shot at Omaha, the 2026 Rebels are just about to launch what they hope will be an extended run at this College World Series.
