Joe Manganiello’s new memoir, Bloodlines, has made headlines for revealing details about the breakdown of his marriage to Sofía Vergara, with the Modern Family star reportedly responding to his claims in a pointed social media post.
Vergara re-posted an Instagram story originally uploaded by her son Manolo. The original post was a photo of a list comparing the qualities of a “good man” versus a “narcissistic man.” Her 35-year-old son then added his own comments to the list about “dealing with a narcissist.”
He wrote, “Remember kids … it doesn’t matter how much you do for a [narcissist]. They will resent you for it and nothing will ever be enough and they’ll always somehow try to paint you as the bad guy.”
Vergara then reposted her son’s story on her own account, with many theorizing it’s in response to Manganiello’s memoir. It was also reported that Verga reposted a story by Tom Brady that included a quote about the “ability to laugh at oneself is probably the highest form of intelligence.” She added a clapping hands emoji with the words “Life’s too short to be too serious.”

The actor and her son’s posts came shortly after Manganiello’s memoir revealed details behind his near-fatal health battle and what occurred between him and Vergara during their marriage.
While praising Vergara for having made the “life-saving” decision to remove his large intestine that had “turned to pus” and was in danger of a septic infection, he added that their marriage began to fall apart. He wrote that his marriage became “devoid of any emotionality whatsoever” by the end.
Per PEOPLE, the True Blood actor wrote that Vergara refused to hug him when he begged for affection. She had also ridiculed him for adopting a then-sick Chihuahua in 2019 during his health battle while he was contemplating suicide.
Manganiello also detailed the decision to not have children together. Vergara had told a Spanish news outlet that their marriage ended due to their different views on starting a family. She commented that Manganiello was younger and wanted children, while she didn’t want to be an “old mom.”
In his memoir, Manganiello explains that they had given up on the idea of having children after failed IVF attempts, but also because of his chronic illness. He stated that if he were to die, he didn’t want to leave her with a child that “wasn’t biologically hers.”
The couple finalized their divorce in 2026. Vergara has not made a public statement about his memoir or his claims.
