As many of us are, I’m quite exhausted by all the new Bears stadium talk. We’re going to Arlington! No, Hammond. Chicago has re-entered the chat! No, you guys, we’re really going to Hammond this time, I swear, just watch us!
Wake me up when it’s over.
In an ideal world, Soldier Field would be renovated again, and the Bears would stay along the shores of Lake Michigan. But in all likelihood, that’s just not going to happen. It’ll probably be Arlington Heights, or maybe Hammond wins out. And truthfully, I just don’t really care where it is. And do you know why? Four words: Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson.
As long as Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson are leading the Bears out of the tunnel, they could play Gately Stadium, Triton College, or anywhere a football field can fit. During mandatory minicamp, our quarterback Caleb Williams expressed a similar sentiment, via ESPN’s Courtney Cronin:
“I’m going to play wherever there’s 120 by 53 and a third, and it’s marked up with white lines and two end zones. I’m OK with whatever. Whatever decision they make is whatever decision they make. I just want some green, my teammates and coaches, and another team out there, and fans.”

Of course, the stadium talk is annoying. In a perfect world, a deal would have been announced months ago, and ground would have already been broken. But it’s not a perfect world. The Bears have done things wrong. State and local governments have done things wrong. It’s all a mess.
But for the first time in about 15-20 years, the product on the field couldn’t be farther from a mess. The Bears have a quarterback, a head coach, and seem to be building something sustainable. And guess what. Whether a deal gets announced tomorrow or in six months, the Bears are still going to be taking the field at Soldier Field for the next few years.
BEARS QB CALEB WILLIAMS IS A QUOTE MACHINE
So, sure, the stadium process has been like pulling teeth. But the team on the field has a chance to be as fun and as successful as we’ve seen here in a very long time. Let’s not let the stadium drama outshine what truly matters most, and that’s the on-field product.
If Caleb Williams doesn’t care where he plays football in a Bears uniform, then neither do I. If it’s Arlington Heights, great. If it’s Hammond, that’s fine too. If somehow the city of Chicago comes up with a miracle bid and keeps the team, even better. But as long as Ben Johnson and #18 are taking that new field with the team, that’s by far what I’ll care about most.
BEN JOHNSON ON CALEB WILLIAMS: He Just Wants to Win Super Bowls in Chicago
We have a what could be a really fun season just a few months away, I’m going to choose to focus on that as opposed to where the Bears might call home in 4-5 years.
