Strong winds and a possible tornado spread damage and debris across suburban Bartlett on Thursday.
Though the area “suffered significant damage” during the storms, no injuries were reported as of 9:40 p.m., according to Bartlett Mayor Dan Gunsteen.
A strip mall near Route 59 and West Stearns Road could be seen littered with debris and tree branches after the storm.
Fuel pumps at a bp gas station on a corner of the intersection were knocked over by strong gusts of wind that rolled through during the storms.
Video captured in the area during the storms that was provided to NBC Chicago by Ryan J. Koepke showed strong gusts of wind whipping debris around.
Gunsteen said emergency responders were working “throughout the community assessing damage and responding to affected areas” and “working closely with ComEd to restore power as quickly and safely as possible” in a post on social media around 9:40 p.m.
“We ask residents to avoid downed power lines, stay clear of damaged areas, and use caution while traveling throughout the village,” Gunsteen said. “Please remember that conditions may continue to change as assessments are completed.”
