Iconic '90s rock band The Strokes is delaying the release of their much-anticipated seventh studio album, Reality Awaits.
The New York City rockers are pushing back the record's release until July 24, 2026. It was originally scheduled for release later this month.
Reality Awaits is the band's first album release in six years, marking their return to music in a big way. The record is helmed by lead single, "Going Shopping," which was released in April and soared to No. 1 on the New Alternative 40 chart. The second single, "Falling Out of Love," which dropped in May, also reached No. 1 on the New Alternative 40.
While no reason was given for the album's pushback, the band has announced a huge homecoming show at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, NY. The concert is the New Yorkers' first show in their hometown since 2023. Taking place on Oct. 2, 2026, support comes from Beach House, TV on the Radio, and Fcukers. An official artist presale will begin on June 17 at 10 am ET, with general sale beginning at 10 am ET on June 18.
In April, the five-piece announced the Reality Awaits World Tour, which will see the band perform in major cities across North America, the U.K., Europe, and Japan. The North American leg of the tour kicks off on June 12 in Manchester, TN, with stops in Chicago, IL, Boston, MA, Vancouver, BC, Milwaukee, WI, and more.
Guitarist Nick Valensi announced that he would not be present on the upcoming tours. “Nick will be taking a temporary break from the scheduled tour, but we look forward to his return,” the band wrote in a joint statement posted to their Instagram Stories, per Pitchfork. The duration of Valensi's break is unknown; Longwave frontman Steve Schiltz will be taking his place during the unspecified time period.
