EgyptAir adds 16 wide-body aircraft to its fleet

The Chairman of the EgyptAir Holding Company, Ahmed Adel, revealed a comprehensive expansion and development plan for the company’s fleet, which includes adding 16 wide-body aircraft from the latest global models.

During a phone interview with Extra News channel on Saturday, Adel said that this is part of a comprehensive modernization program aimed at increasing operational efficiency and enhancing the company’s competitiveness in international markets.

The global aviation sector has faced significant challenges in recent years following the COVID-19 pandemic in addition to supply chain disruptions, which have impacted the availability of new aircraft worldwide.

EgyptAir has addressed these challenges through an integrated strategic plan to modernize its fleet, Adel explained.

He pointed out that 19 aircraft are currently undergoing complete interior refurbishment, including upgrades to the business and economy class cabins, making the travel experience closer to that of new aircraft.

Adel emphasized that passengers will experience a significant improvement in service. He also revealed that contracts have been signed for 34 new aircraft, scheduled for gradual delivery until 2031.

    Expansions

Adel explained that the plan aims to reach a fleet of approximately 97 aircraft by 2030, with the possibility of expanding to 125 aircraft in the future.

Among the new aircraft are 16 Airbus A350-900s, he said, which are among the latest wide-body aircraft in the world, in addition to Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

These models are characterized by high fuel efficiency of about 25 percent less than traditional planes, which will contribute to reducing operating costs significantly in light of rising global fuel prices.

The chairman further noted that the development plan aligns with the state’s direction to modernize the civil aviation sector and develop airports, including expansion projects and new terminals, to ensure the infrastructure is ready to accommodate the anticipated growth in travel.

He indicated that the company has already begun expanding by opening new routes, including a direct route to the West Coast of the US (Los Angeles) with three weekly flights, with preparations underway to launch a route to Chicago soon, in addition to a new route to Venice.
