1982 Soft-Rock No. 1 Gets a Modern Arena Tribute 

On May 29, Charlie Puth played to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The night, which was part of the pop/R&B singer's Whatever’s Clever World Tour, was full of surprise guest stars, including Art Garfunkel, Busta Rhymes, and Kirk Franklin.

    Following Garfunkel’s heartfelt “The Boxer” duet with Puth, late-night show host and comedianJimmy Fallon joined Puth for a modern rendition of one of the greatest classic rock songs of all time.

    Sporting sunglasses, a black sweater, gray pants, and white sneakers, Fallon harmonized the lyrics to Toto’s "Africa" with Puth, dressed in an oversize blazer, red tie, and jeans. 

    Released in 1982, the track was Toto’s biggest single, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983. It was featured on their fourth studio album, Toto IV.

    Puth and Fallon did the song justice, hitting the high notes and mastering the sing-along chorus. The performance got the thumbs up from fans on social media, commenting everything from, “Toto belongs in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! One of the best ever!” to 'Africa' by legendary Toto David Paich. You nailed it Jimmy and Charlie.” 

    Even David Paich, the co-founder, keyboardist, and principal songwriter of the rock band, gave his seal of approval. Taking to Instagram, the legend posted Billboard’s video of the pair rocking out to “Africa” with the caption: “Charlie and Jimmy blessed the rains.”
