David Harbour Responds to Ex Lily Allen’s Scathing Album

Stranger Things actor David Harbour has finally opened up about West End Girl, the scathing album Lily Allen wrote about their marriage.

Speaking about the album, a new interview with Variety Harbour said: “It was weird.”

Lily Allen released the album, her first in seven years, in 2025. It became one of the biggest records of the year, thrust Lily back into the limelight and helped create numerous memes.

On the album, she chronicled her five-year marriage to David Harbour, depicting his infidelities, emotional manipulation and addictions.

David has spoken for the first time about her music and how she was within her rights to write songs about their marriage. “I do believe that it is the privilege of every artist to use their experience to create art, and so I respect her for doing that,” he explained.

“I can’t really say that much more because it’s my private life. In spite of the fact that a lot of people don’t allow me a private life — I value it. And I also value the lives of the people that I interact with privately. I just won’t speak about that.”

When asked if he wanted to respond to any of the claims made on the record, Harbour said: “Stories are complex and that’s why I say I respect her creation of art to channel her experience. It wasn’t my experience.”

He told the outlet that he channelled his break-up into the HBO limited series DTF St. Louis, which followed a group of struggling middle-aged people experimenting sexually as they battled their malaise.

“My ability to use my experience comes through in the creation of  DTF St. Louis. I want to make things that make people feel safer. My particular talent is in allowing people to feel like they’re not alone.”

In an interview with Vogue, Allen explained that the album was a combination of fact and fiction. “There are things that are on the record that I experienced within my marriage, but that’s not to say that it’s all gospel,” she said. “It is inspired by what went on in the relationship.”

41-year-old Lily also explained, via NME, that the record detailed the “complexities of relationships and how we all navigate them”, and that it was inspired by her “deep-rooted issues with rejection and abandonment” after her divorce. She later added toInterview that she did not view the exposing album as “cruel” and was not seeking “revenge”.
