For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Futures Championship finalist Lucas Knapp has announced his commitment to swim for Georgetown University in Washington, DC, beginning in the fall of 2026.

“Since I was young, it has been a dream of mine to pursue swimming at the highest level while also striving for academic excellence. I’m beyond grateful and excited for the opportunity to continue this journey at Georgetown University. Thank you to the amazing coaching staff for giving me this chance and thank you to all my coaches past and present. I’d also like to thank God for His guidance, for being my rock, and lighting my path. To my family, thank you for your unwavering love, the early mornings, and the hours of dedication to the sport I love. To the next four, HOYA SAXA!”

Knapp swam for the Bolles School Sharks in Florida for the start of his high school career before moving to Maryland and completing his senior year at Walter Johnson High School. In addition to competing for the school’s varsity swimming team, he currently trains year-round with Nations Capital Swim Club at the team’s Tysons Corner location, where he primarily specializes in free and fly.

At the 2025 Katie Ledecky Invitational in December, Knapp turned in a series of strong performances. He placed 3rd in the 200 fly (1:48.38 – PB), 4th in the 1000 free (9:17.73 – PB), 6th in the 500 free (4:29.21) and 8th in the 100 fly (50.24). He also placed 6th in the 200 free in 1:40.07 after posting a personal best time of 1:39.80 during prelims.

Knapp posted another series of lifetime best performances at the 2026 MPSSAA (Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association) 4A/3A State Swimming and Diving Championships in February, logging three new personal bests. He won the 100 fly (48.11) and placed 4th in the 100 back (50.58), and he also set a new best time in the 100 free (45.53) as the leadoff on his team’s 400 free relay.

More recently, Knapp raced at the 2026 Shamrock Shakedown, where he continued to turn in top performances in his events. He took home the meet title in both the 200 fly (1:46.52 – PB) and 500 free (4:25.49 – PB) and snagged the runner-up spot in the 200 free (1:38.67 – PB). He also contested the 50 free (21.78).

Knapp competed at the 2025 Futures Championship (LCM) in Greensboro last summer, earning a second swim in three events and posting a lifetime best time in four events. He placed 10th in the 200 fly (2:03.84 – PB), 11th in the 800 free (8:25.76 – PB), 17th in the 400 free (3:59.88 – PB) and 19th in the 200 free (1:54.48 – PB), in addition to contesting the 100 fly (57.82 – SB).

A Division I Mid-Major program, Georgetown competes in the Big East Conference, with the men’s team winning its fifth consecutive conference championship title in February. The team sent one athlete, Owen Watkins, to compete at the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Championship, where he finished 39th in the 50 free (19.97).

Based on the results from the 2026 Big East Conference Championships, Knapp would have landed in the ‘A’ final in the 200 free, 500 free, 100 fly and 200 fly and in the ‘B’ final in the 100 free, putting him in a position to be a key contributor. Knapp notably would have won the 500 free, while his best time in the 200 fly would have been good enough for a 3rd-place finish.

Outside of his success in the pool, Knapp is a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and competed as a starter in underwater hockey. Knapp will not be the first in his family to become a D1 college athlete, as his dad played lacrosse for Michigan.

Set to join Knapp in DC this fall are Holden Brown, Oliver Stabach, Aleksandar Arsic, Andrew Farner, Kielan Liu and Maxon Brienza, who should all make for strong training partners over the next four years.
