ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The hot and muggy weather will continue until Saturday, with multiple chances for rain and storms during that time. Right now we are Green on the Threat Tracker, but we are keeping our eye on Friday specifically right now as it looks to have the strongest of any storms as a cold front sweeps by and feeds off of the heat and humidity. The main threat with any storms would be wind, but we’ll continue to track the development of this system and will be able to narrow down the timing and strength, so stay tuned in case we issue a Yellow Alert.
Today starts out incredibly mild, humid, and with a few scattered showers. Early this afternoon, we expect some showers and thunder to pass through, but nothing severe. It’ll be a bit breezy as they pass. Highs will be hot in the low 80s, with the heat index in the low 90s. Skies will gradually clear for this evening, and it’ll be warm and muggy overnight again with lows near 70 degrees.
Thursday will be essentially a repeat of today, with morning showers/thunder then another round in the afternoon, but that afternoon thunder likely will be closer to the southern Finger Lakes or Southern Tier as opposed to near Rochester. Hot again, humid again, with heat index values in the mid 90s. A little less clearing tomorrow evening, and then another warm and muggy night.
Friday will see a cold front pass by in the afternoon, scraping up plentiful heat and moisture, possibly leading to severe storms. We’re still tracking the development of this, so we have yet to issue any alerts, but may need to if it looks like it will be impactful. Make sure to tune back in this afternoon and tomorrow for updates, and download the First Alert Weather app so you can get updates sent right to your phone as soon as we send them out.
Behind that front, MUCH more comfortable weather for Saturday with mostly sunny skies, low humidity, and cooler temperatures. For most of next week we will get a break in the heat, but not necessarily the rain.
Stay cool and stay dry today!
