A new legal filing from Nick Reiner is drawing attention as he continues to fight murder charges in a high-profile case involving his parents.
The petition, filed on June 8 by Reiner's civil attorneys, argues that Reiner remains entitled to financial resources as he prepares his defense, despite the serious allegations against him. Specifically, Reiner is seeking access to a $1.5 million trust fund established in his name to help cover legal counsel.
“Nick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths. But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this Trust litigation," the petition says, according to the Associated Press. "Like anyone accused of a crime, Nick is presumed innocent, and he is entitled to mount his defense with the resources that are lawfully his own."
Reiner is currently in jail awaiting trial after being accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner back in December 2025. Nick was arrested shortly after his parents were found dead and has since pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
Shortly after his arrest, Nick retained attorney Alan Jackson to represent him. Jackson is a high-profile defense lawyer who has represented several notable clients in major criminal cases, including actor Kevin Spacey and Karen Read, who was acquitted in the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe.

Jackson withdrew from representing Nick on January 7.
"Circumstances beyond my control, but more importantly circumstances beyond Nick's control, have made it impossible for us to continue our representation," he told reporters, according to BBC News. "I'm legally and ethically prohibited from explaining the reasons why."
Nick is due back in court on September 15, 2026, though it's unclear when his trial will start, according to Fox LA. He remains in custody without bail as the case continues to move forward.
