It's been a hard year for Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans, as the fandom loses another beloved star. Anthony Head passed away at the age of 72 due to complications from pneumonia. As fans quickly poured out their love and gratitude, Sarah Michelle Gellar penned her own thoughts in a beautiful tribute.
Hours after the announcement of Head's passing, Gellar took to Instagram to share a quote from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, something she had done for both the passing of Michelle Trachtenberg and Nicholas Brendon. Other Buffy stars have also paid their own tributes, and more are expected to come through as everyone finds the right words to share.
She posted: "“Tell Giles I figured it out and I’m ok” Well I don’t have it figured out and I’m not ok. But I know I’m the lucky one because I knew you. Thank you to Daisy and Emily who not only shared their dad with me, but with the world."
While including the line from the show, she added her own words, because quite frankly, she doesn't "have it figured out."

Gellar opted to share a real photo taken with Head and his daughters, Emily and Daisy, whom she thanked for sharing their dad with her. She then followed up with a candid shot of her and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. when they attended a Rocky Horror Picture Show performance, where Head starred as Frank-N-Furter, and then a selfie with her TV father figure.
The final picture was a meme from Buffy, where her character asks Giles if it ever gets easier to lose people. It reflects how she feels with the tremendous loss she has faced over the last 16 months.

Based on the original 1992 movie starring Kristy Swanson, Gellar took over the role of Buffy as she moved from Los Angeles to Sunnydale, the home of a literal Hellmouth. Giles, the librarian at the high school, became her Watcher, and over the course of seven seasons he helped to guide her as a slayer and as a young woman.
They didn't always see eye to eye, but Giles did become a father figure for Buffy, as her dad virtually abandoned her after her parents divorced.
Head's passing marks the third of the main cast to die within the last 16 months, starting with Trachtenberg in February 2025 and then Brendon in March 2026. Head had also lost his partner in December 2025.
