ERIE COUNTY, N.Y. — A person has tested positive for measles in Western New York.
The patient lives in Erie County. This is the first confirmed measles case there since 2018.
Health officials said the person tested positive Thursday after traveling overseas.
Symptoms include fever, cough, pink and watery eyes or a runny nose followed by a rash. Doctors said everyone should make sure they’ve received their measles, mumps and rubella vaccines.
According to the latest update on measles cases in the state by the New York State Health Department, there have been 12 reported cases thus far in 2026. Half of the reported cases are in New York City.
In 2025, there were 20 confirmed cases in the city, with 28 cases in the rest of the state, for a total of 48 cases.
