Alabama guard Aden Holloway will enter the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s second-chance drug program as part of a plea agreement for two felony drug charges, according to multiple reports.
The Crimson Tide’s second-leading scorer in 2025-26 will avoid a conviction on his criminal record, provided he completes 50 hours of community service, passes random drug and alcohol screenings and pays $1,300 in fines. He also penned an apology letter to the Tuscaloosa County District Court.
“I realize that marijuana is illegal in the state of Alabama and it was entirely wrong of me to have it in my possession,” Holloway wrote. “I also realize the severity of this offense and that [I am] extremely grateful to be able to grow through it. This was definitely an eye-opening experience for me and I’ve learned the very valuable lesson that bad choices come with bad consequences.”
Holloway was suspended by head coach Nate Oats on March 16, after he was arrested the same day following a search at his residence by the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force. Holloway was charged with first-degree possession of marijuana and failure to affix a tax stamp, which resulted in his removal from campus.
He missed the entirety of the Crimson Tide’s run to the Sweet 16 following the removal, but won a conduct hearing that reversed the ban on April 3. His status for next season remains in question and likely will depend on the completion of the second-chance program.
“Any conversation about whether or not Aden comes back is very premature,” Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne said last week. “Aden still has legal hurdles to overcome. If he works those out, there would still be multiple steps before we would consider a plan to allow him the opportunity to officially rejoin the program. Any discussions are too early.”
The Crimson Tide will begin its season in early November. The team has yet to release its 2026-27 schedule, but is confirmed to again take part in the Players Era Festival. It will also face Seton Hall, St. John’s, South Florida and an ACC team to be named later as part of the SEC/ACC Challenge.
