The UA SGA officially announced its cabinet selections for the 115th administration in a press release, alongside an update on a sustainability initiative and the announcement of a new Spirit Committee for football games.
“I am incredibly proud of the talented and dedicated students who will serve in each cabinet this year,” Samantha Simmons, president of SGA, said. “They all bring a unique perspective and a deep commitment to strengthening our campus community.” The SGA’s Environmental Affairs team announced the progress of its Another Person’s Treasure initiative, an effort to collect and donate food, linens, blankets and other household items from residence halls on campus. The SGA managed to donate over 450 pounds of food to the West Alabama Food Bank and gave textiles to the Department of Clothing, Textiles, and Interior Design in the College of Human Environmental Sciences for use in classes supporting reuse of materials.
Alongside that update, the SGA released details on its new Spirit Committee, a partnership with UA Athletics that will pay students to help with gameday activities. The initiative, led by vice president of student affairs Anna Beth Frazier, places students in hands-on positions aiding in student entry, customer service and upholding stadium policy. Members of the Spirit Committee will be paid $14 per hour for their work before kickoff and be allowed to attend the game without a ticket afterwards.
“We are so excited for this opportunity to have students be included in the hands‐on process of football season,” Frazier said.
Students can apply to become members of the committee through an online form that will remain open until June 28.
