Lalit Modi was quoted as saying by Wisden: “I don't think so. I think in every society, we have to worry about the society we live in. Today, the society we live in and our country that we are in, if we are at war with another country, the sentiments today are amplified far greater than they were 20 years ago or 30 years ago."

The BCCI has time and again made it clear that they will play Pakistan only in multi-nation events, and that’s only because of the international game’s rules. This became worse after the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, which led to massive conflict between the armed forces from India and Pakistan.

Modi further explained, "What you see in Israel or what you see in Ukraine, you see in other countries. Will those countries play each other? No. So when India, as you're saying, politicised like Pakistan is, rightly so we are when it comes to Pakistan."
"And I don't deny that. I would do the same thing if I were sitting in the seat there. I would do the same exact thing that the BCCI is doing because my fans and my consumers are the Indian people, first and foremost. I care about my people more."
