New Zealand Cricket has unveiled the full schedules for Sri Lanka's 2027 tour and Bangladesh Women's tour of New Zealand in 2026 as part of a busy international home summer. While India's all-format tour has grabbed plenty of attention, New Zealand will also host Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in important bilateral assignments across formats.
The upcoming home season will feature as many as 41 days of international cricket spread across eight cities. The schedule includes a full-fledged men's series against Sri Lanka and a white-ball tour for the White Ferns against Bangladesh, with both assignments expected to play a key role in preparations for upcoming ICC events.
New Zealand's men's team will host Sri Lanka in an all-format series beginning on January 16. The tourists will first play a three-match ODI series before the focus shifts to three T20Is and two Test matches.
The series is expected to be an important challenge for both teams, particularly with the World Test Championship cycle and future white-ball events in mind. The Tests in Mount Maunganui and Hamilton will also provide Sri Lanka an opportunity to improve their recent record in New Zealand conditions.
Meanwhile, the White Ferns will host Bangladesh Women for three T20Is and three ODIs in December. It will be New Zealand Women's only home assignment of the season after their planned tour of Australia was pushed back following the rescheduling of the inaugural ICC Women's Champions Trophy to February 2027.
The Bangladesh series will therefore carry added importance for the White Ferns as they look to build momentum ahead of the global tournament. The matches will be played across Nelson, Wellington and Mount Maunganui during the lead-up to Christmas.
"Bangladesh is an improving side in women's cricket" - Eden Carson
New Zealand spinner Eden Carson is eagerly awaiting her return to international cricket after missing recent action due to an elbow injury that required surgery last year.
"It's been a challenging period and I've had to be patient with the injury," Carson said. "After missing all of the recent summer and the current tour to England, I'm excited and motivated to get back out on the park."
Carson also highlighted the challenge Bangladesh will bring during the upcoming white-ball series.
"Bangladesh is an improving side in women's cricket and we know we'll have to be on our game."
The spinner believes the home series will be an ideal opportunity for the White Ferns to prepare for the ICC Women's Champions Trophy.
"It's exciting to have a first ICC Women's Champions Trophy confirmed for February and the series against Bangladesh should provide solid preparation for that tournament."
While Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are part of New Zealand's packed home calendar, the biggest attraction of the summer remains India's all-format tour. The Black Caps will take on India in five T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests in what will become the largest international tour in New Zealand Cricket history by number of matches.
Veteran leg-spinner Ish Sodhi admitted that matches against India always carry a different level of excitement.
"It's always a special occasion playing India. They're an unbelievable cricket team, full of talent and star power – you know every time you face them it's going to be seriously challenging. The rivalry we've built in recent years is pretty staggering and I'm sure this tour will deliver many more big moments."
Sodhi also spoke about the atmosphere Indian supporters create whenever they travel.
"Then there's the Indian fans and the energy and noise they bring – it really is like nothing else and something everyone should experience at least once in their life."
