Incumbent Kent Lee is poised to continue representing District 6, while fellow councilmember Henry Foster III slightly trails opponent Martha Abraham as early results came in Tuesday.
In the first release, Abraham leads the field with 39.78% of the vote with Foster a nip behind at 39.03%.
Lee leads his race with 55.29% of the vote. Sole challenger Mark Powell has 44.27%.
District 4, which primarily encompasses southeastern San Diego, has two candidates facing Foster. Abraham, a NICU nurse, was endorsed by the Sierra Club, La Prensa San Diego and the San Diego Voice & Viewpoint newspaper. She’s a Democrat. The other challenger, administrative assistant Johnny Lee Dang, is endorsed by the San Diego County Republican Party.
In addition to the San Diego County Democratic Party, Foster has endorsements from Rep. Juan Vargas and Rep. Sara Jacobs, both San Diego Democrats in Congress, state senator Akilah Weber-Pierson and secretary of state Shirley Weber.
District 6 covers Mira Mesa, Kearny Mesa, Scripps Ranch, University City and Sorrento Valley.
Powell has endorsements from the County Republican Party, Assemblymember Carl DeMaio and the Union-Tribune. Among those backing Lee are county Democrats, the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council and a handful of local state representatives.
Both Lee and Foster endorsed each other; each received endorsements from fellow councilmembers Vivan Moreno and Sean Elo-Rivera, as well as council President Joe LaCava.
