LIBERTY — Township police were busy over the weekend, responding to a break-in and an attempted break-in on the same street.
According to a police report, officers responded to an Overbrook Avenue residence Saturday for a breaking and entering that wasn’t in progress. The resident told officers that people he didn’t know had forced entry into his detached garage and shop around 4 a.m. that morning and took several items.
The officer noted there were no cameras on the residence or the garage’s exterior, but the single man door on the garage’s side was heavily damaged near its deadbolt, with multiple pry and gouge marks around the circular lock.
The report states the deadbolt was also removed, and there were several indentations in the grass in front of the door.
The man told officers that a yellow Can-Am 800 four-wheeler with a rear seat and a red Gravely zero-turn lawn mower were taken, as well as multiple Milwaukee and Ryobi hand tools and power tools, but was unsure of which ones and their dollar amount at the time of the report.
The officer noted the garage doors’ tracks appeared to be heavily lubricated, with damp spots still present at the base of the door, leading him to believe the culprit had lubricated the floor to avoid detection.
The man said a large roll of linoleum flooring had been placed vertically and used to prop the garage door open, according to the report.
The man told officers that a neighbor’s camera at the corner of Grove Street captured a potential suspect vehicle entering the area and turning off its lights before approaching the road.
On Sunday, officers were called to a different Overbrook residence for an attempted breaking and entering incident that had happened overnight, with the caller noting that unknown individuals had unsuccessfully tried to enter his detached garage and shed. The report states pry marks were seen on the garage’s man door and a latch and lock on the shed, but no entry happened.
The caller expressed belief that the suspects were scared off by a motion detector or a family member returning home at 1 a.m, adding that he checked his property a day prior after his neighbor’s reported theft.
