More than 9,000 runners were out in force on Sunday along the streets in and around Downtown for the latest edition of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, with three Californians — including one San Diegan — taking the win in the event’s top races.
Sara Bagnell of San Diego won the women’s full marathon on Sunday after traversing the 26.2-mile course in 2 hours, 57 minutes and 46 seconds. Fellow San Diegan Alaina Skelley finished third at 2:58:57. On the men’s side, Isaac Hernandez of Willow Park, Texas, was the winner with a time of 2:28:54.
“Today was everything Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego is known for, a celebration of running, music, community and the spirit of this city,” Race Director Colleen McDonald said in a statement.
Two other Californians swept the 13.1-mile half-marathon event: Anthony Solis of Barstow won the men’s division with a time of 1:04:18 — with a Coronado resident, Tim Hendricks, coming in third at 1:04:58 — and San Marino’s Yilin Wu completed the course in an even 76 minutes to win the women’s race.
Organizers estimated that the number of racers this year grew by 10% compared to 2025, with nearly 50% of participants from the U.S. hailing from San Diego County; while an estimated 70% of overall participants were first-time marathon runners, 39 contestants have reached “Legacy Runner” status, having taken part in all 28 races since the event was founded in 1998.
