What international media is saying about teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

On Wednesday, May 27, Rajasthan Royals (RR) handed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) a massive 47-run defeat in the Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur. While the win was crucial for the Royals as they eye to end their 18-year-long title drought, it was young Indian talent, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who once again rose to the occasion. The 15-year-old, who has been the top run-getter for RR this season, scored 97 runs off just 29 deliveries, helping RR post a formidable target of 244.

The 15-year-old prodigy, during his stay in the middle, hit 5 fours and 12 sixes, striking at the astonishing rate of 334.48. He also went on to break legendary Chris Gayle’s record of most sixes (59 sixes in IPL 2012) in an IPL edition. Seeing him put his six-hitting brilliance on the front, especially against a world-class bowler like Pat Cummins, who conceded 64 runs in his spell, he has been in the talks in international media, especially with talks of his Indian debut also on cards.

The world stood still to witness this unbelievable carnage! #VaibhavSooryavanshi's 97 off 29 was something else, and the world applauds this 15-year-old sensation #TATAIPL 2026 Eliminator #SRHvRR | LIVE NOW t.co/AsF9BnOMCE pic.twitter.com/e6TEMglUZg

International media raves about Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

“The teenage phenom who just tore apart Pat Cummins,” Australian media house The Sydney Morning Herald’s headline read. Written by Daniel Brettig, The Age’s chief cricket writer, chose to use these words after the youngster took Pat Cummins to cleaners as he finished with figures of 0/64 in his 4-over spell, his worst to date in the tournament history.

Another Australian media house, Fox Cricket, chose words like “Absolute joke”, “pure magic” to describe Sooryavanshi’s innings from IPL 2026 Eliminator while hailing his record-breaking scenes.

While it wasn’t just Aussie media which was in awe of the youngster, the Deputy Cricket Correspondent of The Telegraph, Will Macpherson, in his article “Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi might be sport’s greatest 15-year-old”, elaborated on his extraordinary performance with the bat as he sits at the top of the Orange Cap list with 680 runs in 15 innings and a strike rate of 242.85. Macpherson also emphasised the 15-year-old’s likely debut for India soon.

Most runs, most sixes, best strike-rate. By every measure, the best batter in this year's IPL is 15 years old. A piece on the extraordinary Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who surely has to play for India very soon t.co/0dGBPGccqm
