Tennessee baseball will make its first postseason appearance of the Josh Elander era this weekend as the Vols take on the Chapel Hill Regional.
On Wednesday, Elander provided a few injury updates for outfielder Reese Chapman and right-handed pitcher Landon Mack, both of whom missed last weekend’s SEC Tournament in Hoover, Alabama. One of the updates was more positive than the other, but both are notable heading into the most important weekend of the season.
Let’s start with Chapman, who is expected to be good to go for the Vols for the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament. Chapman missed last week after taking a line drive to the face during practice ahead of the SEC Tournament and has not played since. However, Elander noted Wednesday that he’ll be “full-go” for this weekend, adding that he is “pretty damn excited to see him back out there,” per Mike Wilson of Volquest.
Wilson also reported Wednesday that Mack is “day-to-day” and will be on the roster for Tennessee this weekend in Chapel Hill. Mack — typically a starter when healthy — is working with some right arm soreness that began in the final weeks of the regular season and has seeped into postseason play.
Tennessee‘s first matchup of the weekend is set for Friday against East Carolina.
