New LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt is recovering from a Lisfranc injury, which he suffered against Houston last season while playing for Arizona State. The rising junior underwent surgery and been rehabbing his injury this offseason and, according to head coach Lane Kiffin on Tuesday, should be good to go for summer camp. A few weeks ago, Kiffin told reporters that he expected Leavitt is going to “be able to do full stuff” in summer.
Kiffin offered some context for that update, too. He mentioned that Leavitt ran 21 MPH on the GPS within this past week while speaking at the SEC spring meetings, showing his mobility seems to be in a good place with a little over 3 months before the start of the season.

He was available for 7 of Arizona State’s 13 games and threw for 1628 yards with 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. His best game of the season came just before his injury — Leavitt totaled 291 passing yards with 2 touchdowns and a 70% completion percentage (highest of the season) in a 27-24 win over No. 24 TCU. He followed that up with a 319-yard performance against Texas Tech’s impressive defense, enough to beat the Red Raiders 26-22.
Kiffin is hoping that production can translate to the SEC. Leavitt and the Tigers kick off the season on September 5 against Clemson.
