The first season of Yellowstone spin-off Marshals has now come to an end, with the finale setting up a potential new love story for season 2.
This comes after the first episode of the season revealed a shock death, with the wife of Luke Grimes's Kayce Dutton, Kelsey Asbille's Monica, having been killed off screen after the end of Yellowstone season 5.
While a number of potential romances have been teased in the first season of Marshals, including one with Deputy US Marshal Andrea Cruz, the finale saw developments between Kayce and Ellyn Jameson's Dolly Weaver.
Kayce was seen riding off into the sun with Dolly near the end of the season finale, setting up a potential Romeo and Juliet style storyline, given Dolly's family.
Dolly is the daughter of Chris Mulkey's Tom Weaver who has been trying to buy Kayce's East Camp. However, he doesn't know that Tom is actually ruthless, and is just after his land. He is also behind the multiple assassination attempts on Gil Birmingham's Thomas Rainwater.
Kayce and Dolly's burgeoning relationship wasn't the only development in the season finale. The episode also saw two of Kayce's fellow Marshals, Logan Marshall-Green's Pete 'Cal' Calvin and Arielle Kebbel's Isabel 'Belle' Skinner-Turek, in imminent danger after being led to a house where men with guns attacked them.
It is unclear how this cliffhanger will be resolved ahead of the show's second season, which has already been confirmed.
On the announcement of the series renewal, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a statement: "Marshals delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV's most powerful new series.
"The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character driven storytelling from the creative team and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes."
