A 30-year-old woman has died after being shot outside a bar in a busy area in Sheffield city centre.
South Yorkshire police have launched a murder investigation after the incident in the early hours of this morning outside the One Four One bar on West Street.
The woman was found with serious injuries and treated at the scene, before being taken to hospital where she later died.
Three people were arrested on suspicion of murder and they remain in custody. A 30-year-old man was detained in Sheffield, while another 30-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman were intercepted by police near Stockport in Greater Manchester.
The woman has not been formally identified but her family have been informed and are being supported by officers.
Assistant chief constable Colin McFarlane said: “This is a devastating incident which has resulted in the death of a young woman while on a night out during the bank holiday weekend in Sheffield.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with her family and everyone who knew and loved her,” he said.
“Our officers have been working extremely hard to piece together the events surrounding the shooting,” he added.
“While our investigation is in its early stages, we will continue to have a significant presence at the scene in the area today and in the coming days.”
A stretch of West Street and surrounding roads remain closed while the police investigation continues.
McFarlane urged people who were in the busy area around West Street and Eldon Street and would have seen what happened to come forward.
“Gun crime causes unbearable tragedy and the victim and her family deserve answers,” he said.
