West Ham 3-0 Leeds Stats: Hammers Relegated From Premier League Despite Final-Day Win

West Ham United’s 3-0 win over Leeds United was in vain, as the Hammers suffered relegation from the Premier League for the first time in 14 years.

West Ham were relegated from the Premier League despite beating Leeds 3-0 at the London Stadium, with Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Everton keeping them up.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s team entered the final matchday knowing they needed a victory to have any chance of retaining their top-flight status. And given their vastly inferior goal difference, overhauling Spurs was only realistic if Roberto De Zerbi’s side were beaten.

There was a flat atmosphere by half-time after the Hammers struggled to create anything in the way of clear-cut chances, with Leeds going close through Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and news filtering through that Joao Palhinha had put Spurs in front.

West Ham did their bit in the second half, with Callum Wilson blasted beyond the Leeds goalkeeper from distance in stoppage time to add further gloss to the scoreline.

But it was all in vain as West Ham did not get the favour they required from Everton, who never truly threatened an equaliser throughout until stoppage time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, when Tyrique George forced Antonin Kinsky into action.

Nuno Unable to Prevent the Drop

West Ham have been relegated from the Premier League for the first time since 2010-11, going down despite amassing 39 points. That is the most any team has been relegated with since that 2010-11 campaign, when the Hammers were adrift at the bottom but both Birmingham City and Blackpool suffered the drop with 39.

While a three-match losing streak coming into the final matchday was costly, West Ham also endured a dire start to the campaign that left them fighting an uphill battle.

Indeed, counting only results from Nuno’s first game in charge on 29 September onwards, West Ham would have finished 16th in the Premier League with 36 points (W9 D9 L15).

It now remains to be seen whether any of their big names will depart. Club stalwart Bowen is sure to attract interest, having finished this season with 11 Premier League assists – his most in a single campaign – and 20 goal involvements overall.

Only Paolo Di Canio in 1999-00 (13) and Dimitri Payet in 2015-16 (12) have registered more assists in a Premier League season for West Ham, and only Muzzy Izzet (14 in 2003-04 for Leicester City) has amassed more for a team that went down that campaign.

Leeds, meanwhile, can look forward to a second season in the top flight with optimism after finishing 14th, and the future looks bright for Daniel Farke’s men.

They became only the sixth team to go through an entire Premier League season without naming an outfield player aged 30+ in a starting XI – the others are Middlesbrough (2008-09), Aston Villa (2012-13), Spurs (2015-16) and Chelsea (2024-25 and 2025-26).

West Ham vs Leeds Post-Match Facts

West Ham have been relegated from the Premier League for the first time since 2010-11, with their 39 points the most by a side to go down since both Birmingham and Blackpool went down on 39 in 2010-11. Leeds’ eight game unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end – the Whites have now gone 14 Premier League games without a win in London (D4 L10). Had only results from Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game in charge on 29 September this season counted, West Ham would have finished 16th in the Premier League with 36 points (W9 D9 L15). Jarrod Bowen assisted 11 Premier League goals this season, his most ever in a single season. Only Paolo Di Canio in 1999-00 (13) and Dimitri Payet in 2015-16 (12) have more in a season for West Ham, and only Muzzy Izzet (14 in 2003-04 for Leicester) has more assists for a relegated team in one campaign.
