Luke Bryan’s eldest son, Boyer “Bo” Bryan, is a high school quarterback who plays for the Battle Ground Academy Wildcats in Franklin, Tenn. Bo, whom he shares with his wife, Caroline Bryan, suffered a serious injury during a football game against Pope John Paul II on Friday, Oct. 16.
According to The Tennessean, via USA Today, the high school athlete was sacked and fell on his right shoulder during the opening series, when his team had possession of the ball. Bo exited the game and wore a sling and shoulder wrap for the remainder of the matchup, cheering his team on from the sidelines.
Hours after the injury, on Saturday, Oct. 17, Bo reportedly took to his Instagram Stories to share an update with followers.
“[I] broke my collarbone last night. Thank you, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers. We will be back,” he wrote.
“I don’t know what we’re looking at yet,” BGA coach Bobby Bentley told The Tennessean after the game. “We’ll have to figure this thing out. That’s the challenge for us as a team and as coaches. What do we do? How do we do it? We’re going to figure it out.”
At this point, it’s unclear how long Bo will be off the field while focusing on healing and recovery.
Bryan, 50, is also the father of his son, Tatum “Tate” Christopher Bryan. In addition to raising his own children, the singer stepped up to raise his nephew Til, and supports his nieces Jordan and Kris, following the loss of their parents.
The country superstar and American Idol judge has been vocal about his excitement for Bo’s football journey and frequently attends his games. During a previous appearance on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast, Bryan opened up about attending quarterback camps with his son.
He said, “I didn’t want to put my son in camps before he was ready…this past spring, we did a couple of them, and man, let me tell you something, we went to Atlanta, and he threw well there, but we went to Louisiana, and when you see them boys getting after it in Louisiana, it’s a different deal… I’m learning this as I go.”
