Before the match started, Vaibhav needed only two runs to break the record held by Devdutt Padikkal. The Rajasthan Royals opener reached the historic milestone in the second over with a single at deep mid-wicket against Will Jacks at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The record was till now held by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Devdutt Padikkal, who had scored 580 runs for Karnataka in the 2019–20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. But now Vaibhav has overtaken Padikkal at just 15 years of age.

The left-handed opener has been unbelievable throughout the season. In only 14 matches, Vaibhav has already scored 583 runs at an impressive average of 41.64 and blistering strike rate of 232.27, with the help of one century and three fifties this season.

Meanwhile, Trevor Penney, assistant coach of Rajasthan Royals, has been left highly impressed by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, but he also feels the youngster’s rise should be handled carefully. Penney said he has never seen a 15-year-old bat with so much confidence and skill.
Trevor Penney was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz: “I've never seen a 15-year-old bat like that. Even if he were 25, I think we'd be talking about him. I think age hasn't come into it. He goes from ball one, and he's got all the shots. I think this year compared to last—I did watch on TV—he might have matured a bit on what shots he can play, where the bowlers think there's a weakness.
He's adapting to that and then playing accordingly. He's definitely adapting to how bowlers think they can bowl with him. Suddenly, once he works that out, then they have to come back to his strength, and then he dominates again.”
