Winter Juniors qualifier Mia Mracna has announced her verbal commitment to the admission process* at Columbia University for 2027-28. She publicized the news on Instagram, writing:
I am so excited to announce my commitment to the admissions process at Columbia University to continue my academic and athletic careers! Thank you to all my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me throughout the years. A special thank you to Coach Diana and Coach Demerae for this amazing opportunity! Go Lions!!

A junior at Berkley High School in Michigan, Mracna has been a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team since her freshman year. She also currently swims year-round with Atlantis Swimming, where she primarily specializes in breaststroke and IM.
At the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) Division 2 State Championships in November, Mracna finished fourth in the 100 breast (1:04.53) and sixth in the 200 IM in a personal-best 2:08.10, after finishing third and seventh in the same events as a freshman.
Mracna qualified for and competed at her first Winter Juniors in December, where she finished 44th in the 100 breast with a then-best 1:03.83 and 60th in the 200 breast (2:21.00) at the East meet.
Mracna most recently competed at the NCSA Spring Championships in March, where she cracked the top 50 for the first time and set current lifetime bests in the 100 and 200 breast. She placed 10th in the 200 breast (2:14.32), 27th in the 100 breast (1:03.37), 37th in the 50 breast (29.90), and 161st in the 200 IM (2:14.26). The meet capped a short course season that saw her drop over six seconds in the 200 breast, three and a half seconds in the 200 IM, and nearly two seconds in the 100 breast.
Top SCY Times:
100 Breaststroke: 1:03.37 200 Breaststroke: 2:14.32 200 IM: 2:08.10A Division I program, Dartmouth competes in the Ivy league, with the women’s team placing eighth out of eight teams at this past season’s conference championships. Mracna’s current best in the 200 breast would have placed seventh in the ‘A’ final, an event Dartmouth had no swimmers make the top eight in, while she would have made the ‘B’ final of the 100 breast. Meanwhile, it took a time of 2:03.55 to earn a second swim in the 200 IM, putting her current best time outside the cutoff.
With several recruiting classes still to be finalized before she arrives on campus, plus graduations and potential transfers, it is far too early to project the team’s depth chart and conference outlook for the 2027-28 season.
Mracna joins fellow breaststrokers Sasha Volkova, 1:03.67/2:14.38, and Isabella Zhang, 1:02.64/2:16.88, along with Carina Dai (fly, IM, & middle-distance free), Hannah Song (IM/middle-distance free), and Tamara Kret (back/IM) in committing to the Lions’ class of 2031.
*Note: A verbal commitment between an Ivy League coach and a prospective student-athlete is not an offer of admission, as only the Admission Office has that authority. The coach can only commit his or her support in the admission process. Ivy League Admission Offices do not issue “Likely Letters” before October 1 of the prospective student-athlete’s senior year of high school. The Likely Letter, while issued after an initial read of the student’s application, is not an offer of admission to the university.
