A Pedestrian’s Concerns
A perspective from Ruth Groh
I feel vulnerable on walkways and roads where I have to look out for cars and bicycles. Let’s all try to stay safe as we have to interact on these shared spaces.
Here are safety rules that can help us all stay safe:
When you are a pedestrian:
When you walk on a street, walk on the left side so you are facing oncoming traffic.
Wear something white at night so that drivers can see you.
When you are riding a bicycle:
Ring a bell or speak before passing by a pedestrian, especially from behind.
When you are driving a car:
Stop for pedestrians at crosswalks, and let us get all the way across before you start up.
I no longer drive or ride a bicycle, but I still walk. I value the opportunity to walk out beyond my home, but some drivers and riders scare me. Let’s try to stay safe together.
