The Cubs managed to score a couple runs to end their scoreless streak, but it wasn’t enough to win the game. That’s OK, though. Win ten, lose three. Win ten, lose three. That’s the rhythm. New ten-gamer starts tomorrow.
Colin Rea was looking like his typically steady self until the 5th inning came along like a freight train. The command was waning, he wasn’t able to put guys away, and the contact got really LOUD. That wound up being the difference in the game, not that I’m gonna feel too bad about Rea right now, given all that he’s done the last couple seasons.
The bullpen kept it as close as they could from there, but the Cubs’ bats just couldn’t get anything going.
The Ankin Law: “Making it Personal” Player of the Game is probably Dom Smith for his four-hit night, continuing a resurgent season for him. Nico Hoerner had an exceptional night on defense, though, so I want to give him a little nod, too.
