ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 Points Table: Updated WTC Standings After BAN vs PAK 1st Test

Bangladesh cricket team outclassed Pakistan again. In the first of the two-match Test series, which is a part of the ongoing cycle of the World Test Championship, the Tiger Brigade secured a commanding win over the visitors, Pakistan, on May 12 at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

Ahead of the series, Saheen Afridi mentioned that their only aim is to qualify for the final of the Championship. To keep the hope alive, they need to keep winning, as they are not in a very comfortable position in the WTC 2025-27 points table. Because of the defeat against Bangladesh, they are now far from the finale.

The first innings of the match staged a neck-to-neck contest. The middle order of the Bangladesh cricket team batted brilliantly in the first innings. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto played a 101-run innings, Mominul Haque got 91, and Mushfiqur Rahim’s 71-run knock were among the key stats from the first innings of the match. The other batters in the line-up also made some contributions on an individual basis. Mohammad Abbas, with his 5-wicket haul, helped Pakistan to get some control over the home team. Bangladesh concluded their first innings of 413 runs.

In reply, the Shan Masood-led team played brilliantly in their first innings, but was not able to cross Bangladesh’s first innings total. For the Men in Green, Azan Awais, the opener of Pakistan, got a brilliant century. Abdullah Fazal, Salman Ali Agha, and Mohammad Rizwan got a half-century each. Because of the collective effort, Pakistan registered 386 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz snatched 5 wickets for Bangladesh.

As the lead was not too massive, a neck-to-neck battle was expected in the second innings. In the innings, the conditions were not favorable for the batters. On the dry surface, the ball was turning, which made the situation more challenging for the batters of both of the sides.

Bangladesh managed to add 240 runs more in exchange for 9 wickets and asked Pakistan to chase a target of 268. As the pitch was a little bit tricky, that 268 runs target was not easy to claim.

Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was outstanding in the second innings too, scoring 87 runs. Mominul Haque accompanied the captain well with a fifty-plus run innings. For Pakistan, Hasan Ali and Noman Ali clinched 3 wickets each.

During the chase, the away team batters faced a batting disaster. Apart from Abdullah Fazal’s 66, there was nothing significant from the rest of their batting unit. On Day 5 of the first Test, Bangladesh claimed an easy win against the Pakistan cricket team. Pakistan lost all of their batters for only 163 runs, and Bangladesh won the contest by 104 runs.
