According to Entertainment Weekly, the Million Dollar Baby actress credits her community with helping her hide her pregnancy.
“I live in a very small town,” Swank explained on Thursday’s episode of the “Question Everything” podcast. “It’s a town I grew up in, and everyone there has been so just respectful of my privacy and it hasn’t leaked.”
The 52 year old said it was so easy to hide her pregnancy, she didn’t need to take special measures to do so, even when she was away from home.
“Clearly, I don’t stay at home all the time,” she said. “I was working up until about 17 weeks pregnant, so no one really knew on set either.”
Swank held off on announcing her pregnancy because, “I’m a pretty private person, and there was no reason to really, I don’t know, say anything.” According to Just Jared, she added, “And then we passed this wonderful diaper bill, and I wanted to show up here, and so I was like, ‘Well, hello everybody and meet the baby in my belly.’”
Swank also shared an animation of her family confirming the news. But the announcement was met with some backlash regarding her pregnancy at 52, which she recently opened up about on The Drew Barrymore Show.
“This was the right time for me,” Swank said on the Oct. 20 episode, per Entertainment Weekly. “Not everything happens in our own time. We have ideas for timelines for ourselves, and getting pregnant isn’t always in our own timeline, right?”
She added, “You can hope and pray for certain things, and things happen when they’re supposed to happen. I was very excited, and it was a good time for me because I feel like I had this career that was a ‘baby’ of mine that I really wanted to give to and devote my time to and not share. And now I can totally devote [myself] to my children.”
