NBA champion PJ Tucker announced his retirement from the league through social media on Thursday.

Then he got an outpour from former and current players, applauding his long, successful career.

The 14-year veteran entered the NBA at 21-years-old, playing for the Toronto Raptors before signing with the Phoenix Suns in 2012.

Tucker spent four-plus seasons with the Suns before he was traded back to the Raptors in 2017.

However, his final season-plus (2015-17) in Phoenix was when he made his biggest impact. Tucker was a monumental piece of the early development of Devin Booker.

It was Booker’s rookie season and second year in the league at the time, and the NBA veteran didn’t go easy on the young Booker. Tucker would push him to his breaking point.

But that fueled Booker to get better and stronger, and the now-Suns superstar credits Tucker for helping him grow into the player he is today.

After playing in Phoenix and Toronto in 2017, Tucker signed with the Houston Rockets in 2018. He spent 3.5 years in Houston before the Milwaukee Bucks traded for him.

The 6-foot-5 forward was the definition of 3-and-d and was a perfect compliment to what the Bucks had brewing in 2021. Tucker joined Milwaukee and won the NBA championship that year.

Then, Tucker spent his final four years in the NBA with four different teams.

The 14-year veteran finished his career with 886 games played, nearly 25,000 total minutes played, 5,863 points, 4,778 rebounds and 1,225 assists.

Tucker averaged 87 steals, 81 made 3s (shooting 36.7%) and 24 blocks per season in his career. He also played in all 82 games three times in his career, including Booker’s rookie season.
