RIYADH — The National Program to Combat Commercial Cover-up (tasattur) carried out more than 6,500 inspection tours in various regions of the Kingdom during the last month of April. These inspections resulted in the initial detection of 170 suspected cases of commercial concealment or cover-up which were referred to the relevant authorities to complete the verification procedures and take the prescribed penalties against the violators. The inspections were based on indicators of suspicion and evidence related to commercial concealment crimes. The inspections targeted commercial establishments to verify their compliance with the Anti-Concealment Law, as well as to address violations related to this law. These inspections covered a wide range of activities, most notably car tire maintenance and repair, juice and beverage outlets, interior design services, serviced apartments, blacksmith workshops, and traditional cafes. Penalties for commercial concealment can reach up to five years of imprisonment and fines of up to SR5million, in addition to the confiscation of illicit funds after final court rulings. The penalties also include closure of the establishment, cancellation of the commercial registration, prohibition of engaging in the activity, publishing names of violators in the local media at their own personal expense, deportation of non-Saudi nationals involved, and a ban on their return to work in the Kingdom.
