They did it again! The Cubs walked off the Reds tonight after a little comeback, and man, the Reds have to be feeling pretty down in the dumps right about now. Can’t say I am too concerned about it!
Michael Busch played hero twice in this one, tying the game in the 8th with a solo shot, and then winning it in the 10th with a bouncer up the middle that was officially (initially?) scored a single. Elly De La Cruz kinda just inexplicably let it bounce right past him, though. Thanks?
Jameson Taillon gave up a solo homer to the second batter of the game, and then to the last batter he faced. In between, he gave up nothing. In a lot of ways, it was the quintessential Taillon start, and it gave the Cubs a chance to come back later on.
Huge kudos to the bullpen group that followed Taillon, allowing nothing through the 10th, including another really impressive appearance by Ryan Rolison for the second night in a row.
The Ankin Law “Making it Personal” Player of the Game is Busch for his late-game heroics (the homer, obviously, but also in the 10th, hey, sometimes you just gotta put the ball in play!).
A really scary moment in the 9th, by the way, as Reds reliever Emilio Pagan delivered his first pitch and immediately collapsed in pain grabbing the back of his leg. He had to be carted off the field, and you can only imagine how bad the hamstring tear in there must’ve been. I haven’t quite seen an injury like that before, and hopefully he’ll be able to recover. It does dampen the mood slightly, but it’s still exciting to see the Cubs come back and walk it off again.
