A year after announcing his intention to swim and study at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Brody Chandler has committed to the University of Tennessee’s class of 2030.
“After much consideration, I am beyond thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee! This decision was not made lightly, but I could not be more excited about the opportunity ahead and what the future holds as a Volunteer. I want to thank my family and friends for their endless support and encouragement throughout this journey. Chandler, who hails from Roseville, California, was 17th as a sophomore and 20th as a junior in our rankings of top swimming recruits from the high school class of 2026. He is a 3-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American from Granite Bay High School, and he trains year-round with Sierra Marlins Swim Team.
At the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Championships last spring, the then-junior broke 20 seconds in the 50 free for the first time, going 19.97 in prelims, 19.82 in finals (for 2nd place), and leading off the 200 free relay in 19.99. He won the 100 free with a PB of 43.63 and anchored the 400 free relay in 43.61. A week later, he competed at the California State Meet and placed 6th in the 50 free (20.25) and 2nd in the 100 free (PB of 43.41).
He jumped into long course season the next weekend at Summer Sanders Invitational, where he went lifetime bests in the LCM 50 fly (25.66) and 100 fly (57.61). He continued to drop time in his sprint free and fly events throughout the summer, wrapping up at Junior National Championships. There, he won the 50 free, finished 7th in the 100 free and 21st in the 50 fly, and notched PBs in the 50 free (22.52), 100 free (50.45), 50 fly (25.10), and 100 fly (55.51)
One of the best 3-distance freestylers in the class, Chandler will join a Tennessee program that excels in sprints. The Vols placed 5th in the team standings at the 2026 NCAA Men’s Division I Championships, with top-8 finishes in the 50 free (Gui Caribe, 2nd), 100 free (Gui Caribe, 3rd), 200 free (Koby Bujak-Upton, 2nd), 200 back (Nick Simons, 7th), 200 free relay (4th), and 400 free relay (4th).
