Mrs. Delma Norene Byrd, age 95 a resident of the Templow community in Trousdale County, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Hartsville Health and Rehab following a stroke on the previous Monday. She was preceded in death by her Husband, Martin Scott Byrd who passed away January 8, 2026. At his death they were just shy of celebrating their 78th Wedding Anniversary.
She was born November 4, 1930 to Floyd and Ollie Bell Green and grew up in the Dixon Springs and Templow areas. She was preceded in death by her Parents; five Sisters, Clara Lankford, Pauline Woodard, Mattie Warner, Aline Coker and Fay Woodard and two Brothers, James Green and Billy Green.
Norene was a long time member of the Willow Grove Methodist Church and taught the children’s Sunday School class for many, many years. She was born at a time when the wife stayed at home and took care of the house and family and that’s exactly what she did. She never had a public job and never learned to drive. She kept children in her home for years. She would often try to write down all their names and the number would be close to forty. She enjoyed cooking and her family enjoyed the delicious meals she would prepare for them on Sundays. She loved sewing and at one time did some sewing for the public. She enjoyed crafting and many people were given things that she made. One of her favorite things to make was stuffed Humpty Dumpty’s and many babies were given one when they were born. She also made many baby gowns and quilts. One of the things we heard her say often was, “I wish I had something to give them.” She wanted to give everyone something she or Scott had made. In her later years, macular degeneration took much of her eyesight and she was no longer able to do many of the things she enjoyed.
She is survived by her Children, Thena (Glen) Haynes, Connie (Jackie) Dillehay and Anthony Scott Byrd all of Hartsville, TN; Five Grandchildren, Edd Scott (Diane) Haynes of Nashville, TN, Amy (John) Pope of Columbia, TN, Taylor (Tyria) Dillehay of Hartsville, TN, Katie (Kevin) Creasy of Murfreesboro, TN and Dustin (Whitney) Dillehay of Hartsville, TN; 12 Great Grandchildren who put a smile on her face when they came to visit, Grace, Bella Kate and Carly Pope, Emerson and Campbell Haynes, Kyler and Kinley Creasy, Turner, Nate and Sawyer Dillehay, Dillon Young and Mallorie Butler.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Anthony Funeral Home at 1 PM Tuesday, May 5, 2026 conducted by her Grandchildren. Interment will be in the Willow Grove Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday and 10 AM until service time Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Willow Grove Cemetery Fund, 3065 Browning Branch Rd., Bethpage, TN 37022.
