This month on “Wonderful Water,” join 97.9 The Hill’s Andrew Stuckey for a conversation with Johnny Riley, OWASA Reservoir and Land Resources Supervisor and Katie Hall, OWASA Public Information Officer, about recreation at University Lake and Cane Creek Reservoir as the weather warms up!
“I think people know that we’re really proud of how we protect our drinking water resources for the community, but these reservoirs have a lot more to offer that not as many people come out and experience,” said Hall. “This is the part of the year when the reservoirs are open for fishing and boating, kayaking and canoeing, and we want to make sure the community knows how much these places have to offer this time of year!”
Both University Lake and Cane Creek Reservoir are protected resources, necessary to safeguard our community’s drinking water quality, but this also means both bodies of water are beautiful places to play outdoors. Healthy flora and fauna, beautiful sanctuaries that feel far away from any given downtown. Boating, fishing, birdwatching, there’s plentiful opportunities to get outside! Visit OWASA’s “Recreation” section on its website for details, registration and more!
“I’m a kayaker, and the crazy thing about Cane Creek Reservoir that people don’t realize is, it’s a big body of water,” said Hall. It’s about twice the size of University Lake, and you’ve got so much space you can go paddle around and not see anybody else …. it’s just really beautiful.”
