A recall has been issued for two popular brands of potato chips, with a number of flavors impacted because some of their ingredients may be contaminated with Salmonella.
The voluntary recall, issued May 4 by Utz Quality Foods, affects a handful of Zapp’s and Dirty brand chips, according to a news release from the Food and Drug Administration. According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after it was discovered that the chips’ seasoning, which contains dry milk powder, may contain Salmonella.
The recall was made “out of an abundance of caution,” the FDA said, as affected seasoning batches tested negative. However, the contaminated dry milk powder supplied by a third party had already led to a number of other recalls, including frozen pizzas and pork rinds.
“To date, there have been no complaints of illness reported to Utz in connection with the recalled products,” the release said. “Utz is recalling these products based on the ingredient supplier’s recall.”
