Lizzo is ready to go to court, if the day ever comes. Amid her ongoing legal battle with her former backup dancers — who in 2023 filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and toxic workplace conditions, which she vehemently denies — the singer explained in an interview with Gayle King why she refuses to settle the case.

In an appearance on CBS Mornings Monday (May 4), Lizzo acknowledged that reaching a settlement with her accusers would probably be simpler than continuing to fight for a legal victory, but she has no plans on going that route. “Most people would [settle],” she told King. “I think it is an easy out, but I’m fighting the case because I know that it’s not true.”
“I cannot wait for it to be dismissed,” she continued, noting that she’s taken the lawsuit extremely seriously “because of what I mean to people.”
“The truth will come out,” Lizzo added. “And that’s why I’m not afraid of it. The truth is less salacious than the headlines.”
In their lawsuit — which Lizzo’s lawyers have called a “fabricated sob story” while maintaining the Grammy winner’s innocence — the dancers accused her of pressuring them into inappropriately touching nude performers at a sex show in Amsterdam and alleged that she’d perpetuated racial and religious discrimination. Other claims that the hitmaker fat-shamed the dancers were dismissed by a judge in December, at which point Lizzo wrote in an Instagram video, “This claim has haunted me since the day it came out … I will be fighting every single claim until the truth is out.”
“There was no evidence that I fired them because they gained weight. Because it never happened,” she also said at the time. “They weren’t fired for gaining weight. They were fired for taking a private recording of me without my consent and sending it off to ex-employees. I have never fired an employee for gaining weight. I have only encouraged and supported people with bigger bodies and shared my platform with them.”
The rest of the case against Lizzo is still pending. As she waits for it to play out, the vocalist is gearing up to release new album Bitch on June 5.
When asked how she’s remained calm and centered through all the legal drama, the musician told King, “I know the music is good, and I know my heart is good.”
She added, “If I know that, I have nothing to worry about.”
