Kyle Jamieson, the Delhi Capitals pacer, has faced serious action from the BCCI after his fiery send-off to Rajasthan Royals' 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Mitchell McClenaghan has finally backed the Delhi Capitals pacer for his celebration.
Rajasthan Royals have been ruling IPL 2026, and despite having faced their fourth defeat of the season, they have made enough of a significant impact to retain their place in the top 4. Under the young skipper Riyan Parag's leadership, they have been an indispensable opposition.
However, something that has been the highlight of their campaign is the young batter, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old kid who has taken IPL 2026 by storm. He has amassed 404 runs across 10 matches this season and has impressed with his ball-striking approach, having batted with a strike rate of over 230.
Delhi Capitals secured their fourth win of this season of the IPL after having defeated the Rajasthan Royals in their last game on the 1st of May at the Sawai ManSingh Stadium in Jaipur.
However, what happened in the earlier stages of the match was something that caught the attention of the BCCI. Kyle Jamieson, the DC pacer, bowled the second over of the game and was hit for a boundary off the very first ball.
The second ball was a stunning comeback for Kyle Jamieson, who cleaned up the in-form youngster with a low full toss. After the dismissal, Jamieson rushed to the youngster with a very aggressive sendoff, where he looked pumped and went very close to the batter during his celebration.
Ex-New Zealand pacer backs Jamieson despite BCCI's penalty
The BCCI considered this to be a Level 1 breach of the IPL's code of conduct, as they also reasoned that the bowler was too close to the batter during his celebration. He was, hence, reprimanded and warned alongside a penalty and one demerit point being handed to the Kiwi pacer.
Amid all this, Kyle Jamieson was backed by his former teammate and New Zealand paceman Mitchell McClenaghan, who is currently part of the Star Sports team of experts in this edition of the IPL. The former MI pacer noted that it was a massive wicket from the team's point of view, and Kyle Jamieson's celebration was a reflection of the natural reaction.
"It was a big moment in the game, and you could see the emotion in that celebration. When you're up against a young batter who has been dominating bowlers throughout the tournament, getting his wicket early brings that natural reaction," said McClenaghan.
Can the Axar Patel-led side make their way into the playoffs of IPL 2026?
After having defeated the Royals at their own home ground of the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals have once again returned to the sixth position on the points table with four wins after nine games this season.
With eight points and a net run rate of -0.895, it will be interesting to see if the Delhi Capitals can back this positive momentum and make their way into the playoffs of the competition. DC's next game is against the Chennai Super Kings on the 5th of May, as they look to avenge their defeat at Chepauk.
