The Chicago area has seen below-average temperatures several times this week, but how long will the chill continue?
According to the NBC 5 Storm Team, there is a chance of overnight frost in areas outside of Cook County overnight on both Friday and especially on Saturday, with temperatures potentially dipping below the freezing mark as unseasonably cool temps continue.
The National Weather Service says the average high temperature in Chicago on May 1 is around 65 degrees, with overnight lows in the mid-40s, but it will be a few more days until the Chicago area sees either one of those marks, according to forecast models.
Scattered showers are expected to continue Thursday night and into early Friday morning, then another chance of rain will enter the forecast Friday afternoon as well, the NBC 5 Storm Team says.
Overnight lows will likely be in the upper-30s and low-40s in the city itself, but outside of Chicago temperatures could dip much closer to the freezing mark, leading to the possibility of frost in some locations.
High temperatures are only expected to reach into the upper-40s in the city and suburbs on Friday, and though things will warm into the 50s by Saturday, there is another strong possibility of frost late Friday and into Saturday morning, especially in areas further away from the urban heat island in Chicago.
Sunday things should be even warmer, with highs in the mid-60s, and there is another chance of scattered showers Sunday, according to the NBC 5 Storm Team.
Things will be even warmer on Monday with highs back in the 70s, but another substantial chance of showers and thunderstorms will help to drive temperatures back down into the upper-50s and low-60s by the middle of next week.
