ESPN’s Greg McElroy shared a bold prediction regarding Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown on Tuesday.
McElroy gave his take during the latest episode of Always College Football. During a “hot take” segment regarding quarterbacks across college football, McElroy said he believes Brown will be Auburn‘s best player by November.
“I think most people kind of see it coming,” McElroy said of Brown’s emergence. “But I think he is the key for Alex Golesh … if Auburn is going to overachieve. Because he can do it all. The entire offensive receiving corps, he’s familiar with. He’s one of only two quarterbacks in the country to have over 3,000 passing yards and 800 rushing yards in the same season.
“The SEC defensive coordinators, they’re going to have to build a specific game plan around Byrum Brown … I happen to think Byrum Brown will be able to step up to the task.”
Brown was among the highest-rated transfer quarterbacks to enter the portal this past offseason after enjoying a breakout year at South Florida under Golesh in 2025. He’ll remain in the same offensive system on the Plains and, as McElroy noted, will be playing with many of the same teammates he battled alongside at USF last season.
Brown is a big reason why Auburn has rising expectations entering the 2026 season. The Tigers are hoping to at least get back to the postseason next year after going 5-7 in each of the prior 2 campaigns.
