Kathy Griffin is still finding ways to keep her late mother’s larger-than-life personality front and center, even if it means taking a dig at herself.
During a Friday, April 24 appearance onThe View, the comedian shared that certain stories about her mother, Maggie Griffin, continue to be a favorite part of her stand-up material for her New Face, New Tour. “People still like to hear stories about my mom and stuff she would say,” Griffin explained.
But one memory that still makes her laugh involved Maggie’s reaction to one of Kathy’s earlier appearances on the daytime talk show when co-creator Barbara Walters was still hosting.
“When I was on The View, she’d always yell at me,” Kathy said. “I thought you were too snippy with that wonderful Barbara Walters. Is there a card I can send her? Because I don’t think she’s ever had a guest as rude, Kathleen, as you!”
Kathy has also spoken previously about her own complicated history with Walters and the show. On a 2025 episode of her podcast, she claimed she was repeatedly brought in as a guest host while executives considered offering her a permanent seat at the table.

According to Griffin, she eventually asked for a final decision rather than continuing what felt like an extended audition process. She said she was later offered $1.4 million for the role, but declined because it was far below what she was earning at the height of her stand-up and television success. She also claimed Walters “did not like that one bit” after she turned it down.
Outside of revisiting old stories, Kathy has recently been making headlines for a dramatic new look. She surprised fans back in March, debuting long blonde hair on social media, leading many to assume it was a wig. She later set the record straight in a YouTube video, saying, “I did it. I actually dyed my hair this color.”
Kathy added, “This is my hair. I’ve been growing it long for a really long time, and I know it’s cheesy, and I’m too old, but I’ve always wanted to try this hair color.”
