There was a flurry of activity regarding Valve’s upcoming Steam-Deck-with-the-screen-chopped-out input device over the weekend, stoking the hype train firebox and leading many to believe that the Steam Controller could launch imminently.
The proposed launch appears to be ahead of the Steam Machine and Steam Frame, which Valve announced alongside the Steam Controller, but have since been delayed owing to those devices being price-sensitive to ‘RAMageddon’, which has sent memory module prices skyrocketing.
The Steam Controller was always going to be available separately, but it is interesting to see Valve potentially opt to release it before the Steam Machine.
As for buying one, you may need to fork out, as according to an early review from TechyTalk that has since been deleted, the Steam Controller will reportedly cost $99.

As the review notes, that would be only $25 more than a DualSense controller, and it’s well short of the “Pro” controllers on offer from Microsoft and Sony, such as the Elite 2 and DualSense Edge, while offering more versatility owing to the trackpads that have been described as ‘Mac-like’.
What’s more, another review popped up before being deleted, this time from Japanese website 4Gamer, which revealed a Steam Controller release date of 4 May.
This follows a new store page going live for the Steam Controller on Komodo Station, the official retailer of Valve hardware in Asia.

It should be noted that, whilst this information comes from seemingly legit sources, Valve ultimately could change its plans whenever it wants to, and so neither the price nor date is set in stone, until it is.
Once an official announcement is made, we will update you as soon as possible!
