Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Distance freestyle specialist Quinn Putchinski has announced her commitment to swim for the United States Coast Guard Academy beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career while serving my country at the United States Coast Guard Academy! I want to thank my teachers, coaches, friends, and family for helping me get to where I am today. I couldn’t have done it without all of you! I can’t wait for what’s ahead—Go Bears!

A native of Rockwall, Texas, Putchinski attends Rockwall High School and trains year-round with the Rockwall Aquatic Center of Excellence.

Putchinski has been on an upward trajectory over the past 12 months; she has dropped nearly 10 seconds in the 1650, almost eight in the 500, and exactly three in the 200 since last March. One of her first standout performances came at the WT COR Classic in December, where she clocked her current 500 free best of 4:59.82 and a then-lifetime best of 17:19.93 in the 1650.

On the high school scene, Putchinski qualified for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A State meet for the first time this February, doing so in the 500 free. She clocked 5:00.82 in prelims to advance to the ‘B’ final before touching 12th in 5:02.10. She also swam her current 200 free best of 1:54.80 at a smaller high school meet a few weeks prior.

Just a week after State, Putchinski returned to action at the NT COR Senior Cup, where she cut just over a second from her 1650 best, logging 17:18.73 in her only event of the competition.

A Division III program, the United States Coast Guard Academy competes in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference, with the women’s team placing second out of 10 teams at this past season’s conference championships. Based on the results from the meet, Putchinski’s personal bests would have won the 1650 free and placed fourth in the 500 free and fifth in the 200 free, putting her in a position to be a key contributor right from the start.

The university did not qualify any female swimmer to the NCAA D3 Championships this past season, but Putchinski projects to change that. Her mile personal best would have placed 16th and scored a point, and she’s only about a second and a half off the 4:58.26 required to make the ‘B’ final of the 500.

On the team itself, Putchinski is slated to top the depth chart in all three of her primary events, making her the program’s go-to distance freestyler and a key component of the 800 free relay. That relay finished fourth at the 2026 conference meet, returns all four legs, and could drop upwards of seven seconds with her addition, pushing the team into the bronze medal conversation.

Currently set to join Putchinski in the Bears’ class of 2030 is Maggie Erwin (back/IM) and Andie Ko (fly/IM).
