A police pursuit ended in a crash and exchange of gunfire between police and three suspects who were later taken into custody in Chicago in the early hours of Saturday morning, authorities said.
Around 1:30 a.m., Chicago police officers attempted to do an investigatory stop on a vehicle with two men and a woman inside on the 4400 block of South Mozart Avenue in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood.
The vehicle fled, firing a weapon multiple times at the officer’s vehicle, authorities said. Officers pursued the vehicle and it later crashed on the 2900 block of West 47th Street, where the suspects then fled on foot.
As they fled, one suspect produced a gun and fired shots at officers. One officer returned fire, authorities said, though no one was struck by the officers or the suspect.
Officers found two guns at the scene and the three suspects were taken into custody.
Video showed the suspect vehicle landed on its side after the crash.
The suspects were transported to a local hospital for minor injuries from the crash and one officer was taken to a hospital for observation.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating, and the officer involved will be placed on administrative leave.
