Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf have both been penalized because of their offensive gestures during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) match on April 23. As per the latest reports, Mohammad Amir and Faheem Ashraf have been fined 10% of their match fee for a Level 1 offence of the League's Code of Conduct in Match Number 34 of PSL 2026.
The incident took place during Islamabad United’s match against the Rawalpindiz at the National Stadium in Karachi. During the first innings of the game, Pindiz pacer Mohammad Amir asked the Islamabad batter to leave the pitch aggressively. The gesture made by the pacer initiated a heated moment between them.
According to the latest updates, the PSL authority has found both of the cricketers guilty in the incident. While Amir is accused of using foul words and provocative gestures, Ashraf is accused of disrupting the match.
Amir was found to have violated Article 2.5 of the PSL Code of Conduct, which pertains to "Using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his dismissal during a Match", according to a media report.
The report further added: Faheem Ashraf was deemed guilty of Article 2.21, which deals with "Bringing the game into disrepute".
This was how the incident occurred in the middle of the match
The incident took place on the 3rd ball of the 17th over of the first innings of the match, right after Amir dismissed the left-handed batter. The seamer, Mohammad Amir, aggressively pointed out the path to the dug-out and asked to leave the field. The gesture made by the bowler did not go well with the batter. Faheem Ashraf replied more aggressively.
He pointed his bat towards the bowler and threw some fiery words in return. As the players were in aggressive mode, the other players on the ground needed to intervene to cool down the situation. Two fielders of Rawalpindiz went to hold back the batter. Because of the heated moment, the match paused for a while.
Batting first, Islamabad United posted only 137 runs on the challenging track of Karachi. Mohammad Amir bowled well by taking a brace. Rawalpindi batters did not have to grind too hard to claim the match. In 18.1 overs, they got the much-needed win. After eight straight losses, Rawalpindiz have registered their first PSL win.
“Credit definitely goes to our bowlers. The pitch was slightly better for the new ball, and the way Amir bowled along with Asif Afridi in the power play was excellent. We wanted to restrict them to a below-par score, and those 10-15 runs we saved made the difference, helping us win comfortably,” Mohammad Rizwan, Rawalpindiz captain and Player of the Match, said in the presentation ceremony.
Islamabad United's coach went furious
In a separate incident, Islamabad United coach Luke Ronchi went furious over a journalist during a press conference. The former Kiwi batter got angry as the journalist started asking his question, interrupting another journalist’s question.
