The EL Classico of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ended through an entertaining contest between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium, on the home ground of the team in Blue
The bowlers of both of the sides displayed some brilliant spells in their respective innings. Mumbai was looking at the front seat when their bowlers were picking up one after another wicket.
Sanju Samson, the star opener of the Chennai Super Kings, stood tall again when the team was in deep trouble. Samson registered his second century in the ongoing season with the Yellow brigade. While wickets were falling at regular intervals, Samson was hitting the ball with ease. He remained unbeaten for 101 runs from 54 balls, powered by 16 boundaries, including 10 fours and six 6s, and CSK registered 207 runs in exchange for 6 wickets.
After Samson, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was the second-highest run-getter for the team, scoring 22 off 14, which showed how Samson carried the team on his reliable shoulders throughout the innings.
The wicket was not easy to bat on
Since the 2026 T20 World Cup, the iconic Wankhede Stadium has witnessed multiple high-scoring matches. Cricket fans were expecting to watch another cracking competition between the batters of both teams tonight.
For the Mumbai Indians, Allah Ghazanfar and Ashwani Kumar claimed a brace each. One wicket each for Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner.
Mumbai Indians hit hard as soon as the second innings kicked off. Quinton de Kock, Danish Malewar, and Naman Dhir lost their wickets inside the power play. Within the 3rd over of the second innings, the Mumbai Indians lost three batters for only 11 runs on the scoreboard.
CSK won the match vs Mumbai by a whopping 103 runs
The Mumbai Indians never looked confident enough to recover from the early blows. The middle-order batters, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, tried for a while to remain firm against the Chennai Super Kings bowlers, but that did not last long. As soon as Varma and Yadav were removed from the crease, the rest of MI’s batting line-up collapsed like a house of cards.
CSK, after losing the toss, went to bat first and scored 207 runs in 20 overs, which proved more than enough to outclass the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians.
The home team managed to score only 104 runs in 19 overs before the fall of the last batter. It is worth noting that, ahead of the match, CSK's emerging talent, Mukesh Choudhary, lost his mother yesterday, and he still played the match and bowled well, picking up 31/1.
"Pretty tough on him (Mukesh Choudhary), I would dedicate this win to him. All glory to him. Everyone chipped in and wanted to be there for him. Feels good (on the win). My gut feeling wanted me to bat first. Sanju and I said that it wasn't coming on nicely," CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said after the match.
"Everyone chipped in really well. Even the 20s helped. Sanju played a magnificent knock and took us home. We have been doing well; it's just starting to click. We are trying to cover all the bases. Mukesh to Quinton, that set the momentum. He started really well. It's a blessing to have Akeal and Noor. Everyone is settling. Everyone is calm and composed. We start from zero, it's about assessing," he added.
